Objective of the program

Compensate people and micro and small companies that have suffered material or moral damages, as well as losses related to their economic activities, as a direct consequence of the rupture of the Fundão dam, quickly, without the bureaucracy and costs of a lawsuit.

• Payment of 43 indemnities in Mariana. To date, 388 indemnities were paid, which account for 91.1% of a total of 426 accepted proposals.
• Payment to 04 new cases of shrimp fishermen from Enseada do Sua. To date, 172 people have been served (97.7% of the eligible 176). Of those, 172 received their indemnity payments (100% of those attended to).

• In Mariana, five indemnity payments were made. To date, there have been 318 indemnity payments, which account for 96.95% of the 328 proposals accepted in total.

• 15 indemnity payments were made to the Shrimp Fishermen from Suá Beach. To date, 168 people have been assisted (95% of 176 who were eligible). 165 of those received their indemnity payments (98% of those who received assistance).
• Seven indemnity payments were made to Mariana. To date, 313 indemnity payments have been made, which account for 97.8% of a total of 320 accepted proposals.
• 75 indemnity payments for loss of profit in 2019 were made. To date, 5,082 people have been assisted(94.2% of a total of 5,394). 5,028 of those have accepted a settlement, and 4,995 received indemnity payments (99.3% of accepted proposals).

• 7 indemnity payments of campaigns 1, 2, and 3 were made, referring to payments to shrimp fishers from Praia de Sua. On 04/27/2020, remote service started in this category, making further progress in May. To date, 163 people have been served, representing 93% of the 176 eligible people. Of these, 150 received indemnity payments, which represents 92% of those served.
• 16 indemnity payments of the Mariana campaign were made. To date, 306 indemnities have been paid, representing 97% of the total 314 accepted proposals.
• 192 indemnity payments for 2019 loss of profit were made. To date, 5,043 people have been served (93.5% of the total 5,394 in scope). Of these, 4,990 accepted an agreement, and 4,920 received indemnity payments (98.6% of accepted proposals).

• Payment of 99 indemnities of campaigns 1, 2 and 3. To date, 9,758 indemnities have been paid, 99.9% of the total 9,762 accepted proposals.
• Payment of 21 indemnities of the Mariana campaign. To date, 290 indemnities have been paid, representing 93% of the total 311 accepted proposals.
• Payment of 2,363 indemnities for 2019 loss of profit. To date, 4,948 people have been served (92% of the 5,394 eligible). Of these, 4,902 accepted an agreement and 4,728 received indemnity payments (96% of accepted proposals).
• Payment of 101 indemnities to shrimp fishermen from Praia de Sua. To date, 154 people have been served (88% of the 176 eligible). Of these, 143 received indemnity payments (93% of those served).

• 81 indemnity payments of campaigns 1, 2 and 3. To date, 9,659 indemnities have been paid, 99% of the total accepted proposals.
• 20 indemnity payments of the Mariana campaign. To date, 269 indemnities have been paid, representing 90% of the total accepted proposals.
• 2,365 indemnity payments for 2019 loss of profit. To date, 2,631 indemnities have been paid, 62% of the total 4,259 proposals accepted. There were 15 people who refused the proposals.
• 42 indemnity payments to shrimp fishermen from Praia de Sua, out of a total of 154 claims.

• Payment of 11 indemnities of campaigns 1, 2 and 3. To date, 9,578 indemnities have been paid.
• Payment of 33 indemnities of the Mariana campaign. To date, 249 indemnities have been paid.
• 2,944 service attendance and 266 payments related to loss of profit in 2019.

Currently, 29,227 families are registered in this program through Campaigns 1, 2 and 3. Of these, 14,926 joined the program and 9,941 met the eligibility criteria and received proposals, whereas 9,567 families received payments.
At this moment, 1,322 families are registered in the program through the Mariana Campaign. Of these, 216 received payments.
Response was provided in all districts regarding the “De Facto Fisherman” project in Regencia - ES, and service attendance was initiated to proceed with the indemnity payments.
On December 14, 2019, an agreement was reached with the Public Defender's Office of Espirito Santo to formalize the results of the negotiation process of the Shrimp Fishermen Working Group, which discussed the assessment and measurement of the damages suffered by the shrimp fishermen from Enseada do Sua in Vitoria (ES). The agreement covers the indemnification of the Enseada do Sua shrimp fishermen’s vessels, and their owners, captain and crew, called shrimp fishermen, who fished at the Doce River Mouth.
The planning of the Loss of Profit referring to 2019 has been completed, with service attendance scheduled as of January 02, 2020, and expected completion of payments by March 31, 2020.

• Payment of 88 indemnities, which are part of campaigns 1, 2 and 3. So far, 9,503 indemnities have been paid.
• Payment of 27 indemnities, which are part of the Mariana campaign. So far, 203 indemnities have been paid.

• 104 indemnity payments related to campaigns 1, 2 and 3.
• To date, 217 agreements were reached in Mariana/MG.

• 209 indemnity payments of campaigns 1, 2 and 3.
• 33 agreements were reached in Mariana (MG). The agreements can be either accepted or rejected proposals.

• 213 indemnity payments of campaigns 1, 2 and 3.
• 55 agreements were reached in Mariana (MG). The agreements can be either accepted or rejected proposals.

• 188 indemnity payments related to the campaigns.
• 48 agreements were reached in Mariana/MG. Agreements can be either accepted or rejected proposals.
• 1,489 registrations were processed in July 19, against a target of 1,472, surpassing the planned amount by 17.

• Payment of 158 indemnities of campaigns 1, 2 and 3.
• 22 agreements were reached in Mariana (MG). They can be accepted or rejected proposals.
• 2,747 registrations were processed in June/19, against a target of 1,747, exceeding the planned amount by one thousand.

• 49 agreements were reached in Mariana (MG) - the agreements may be accepted or refused proposals.

• Payment of 29 indemnities of campaigns 1 and 2.
• The total of agreements in Mariana (MG) remains 22 (twenty-two), as in the previous month (March/2019).

There were 50 indemnity payments in March/19.
Those affected from Mariana (MG) who have already manifested themselves through the customer service channels of the Foundation and those who have filed a lawsuit, are already being attended to.
To date, 22 agreements have been reached in Mariana (MG). Another 176 affected households have already expressed an interest in reaching an agreement - these cases are underway in the Mariana Office.
Continuity of individual assistance for the De Facto Fisherman project in Regencia and Povoacao.
Initiation of hearings for the De Facto Fisherman project in Conselheiro Pena (MG), with about 30 participants from the community.
Based on the hearings held in Conselheiro Pena, a start was also made on mapping local fishing.
3,550 agreements were reached for 2018 Loss of Profit payments. More than 85% of the eligible beneficiaries were already paid (3,216 indemnities paid up to April 1, 2019).

In February, 57 indemnity payments were made.
Those affected from Mariana/MG who have already manifested themselves through the communication channels of the Foundation and those who have filed a lawsuit are already being attended to.
To date, 14 agreements have been reached in Mariana/MG. Another 153 affected families have already expressed their interest in an agreement and are being attended to by the Mariana office.
In February, the individual support phase began for the De Facto Fisherman project in Regencia. In Povoacao, there was feedback on the De Facto Fisherman hearing and initiation of the individual support phase.

There were 174 General Damage indemnity payments in January/19.
A total of 11 agreements have been reached so far in Mariana (MG). Another 167
have already expressed interest in an agreement and are in progress in the
Mariana office.

There were 202 indemnity payments in December/18.

There were 127 indemnity payments in November/18.

An agreement was signed with the Prosecution Service of MG and maintainers regarding Mariana, terminating the ACP-1 and authorizing the PIM to initiate the indemnities for general damages in the municipality. About a thousand agreements are expected to be signed in Mariana, among them permanent and temporary relocations.

The new Agreement Term, allowing for double damage agreements in the Program, is being implemented in all PIM offices.

People and Communities Pillar
Initiation planning for the construction of the Indemnity Policy for Unregulated Commercial Fisherman (“De Facto Fisherman"), in accordance with CIF Resolution 182.

Approval of the pilot covering the Indemnity Policy for the Unregulated Commercial Fishermen.

862 indemnity payments were made in June.

Furthermore this month, an agreement was signed with the Ombudsman and Prosecution Services, guaranteeing the final approval of the Discharge Statement. The discharge is less broad now and has become specific to the indemnified damages and not to all damages resulting from the collapse.

The pilot project that aims to offer free legal assistance by the Espirito Santo State Public Defender’s Office was implemented. The actions will be extended to the other Indemnity Centers based on the results of this pilot.

In addition, a joint statement with the CIF was published on the Renova Foundation website.
Its objective was to inform the extension of the negotiation timelines and payment of indemnities to those registered during the campaigns 1 and 2.

An agreement was signed with the Ombudsman and Prosecution Services on the Payoff details. This way, the debt payment term became specific to the indemnified damages, and no longer a broad one covering all kind of damages resulting from the collapse. The change made it possible to tend to double damages and to reach an agreement with the Prosecution Service for free legal assistance to those affected.

In May, 1,195 General Damage Records (RDG) were also paid off.

Another important action was the construction of a work plan to draft pending indemnity policies (professional fishermen without official documentation, subsistence of fishing communities, sand fishermen, tourism and trash scavengers). This plan was sent to the Technical Board of Organization and Health/CIF. In addition, the pre-existing policies were approved.

A pilot project was also implemented to reduce delays, accelerate proposals and, consequently, increase the effectiveness of the agreements. This action was carried out in three Mediated Indemnity Centers (CIM) of the "Screening" and "Eligibility and Calculations” projects.

1,495 general damage claim payments were made.

The Work Plan was also issued, elaborated by the Renova Foundation and the Technical Board of Organization and Health (CTOS/CIF). It contains the pending indemnification policies and those in development.

In addition, experts from other Renova Foundation programs, which are in synergy with the policies under review or definition, have been incorporated into the activities of the Crisis Room. The aim is to streamline the most critical cases and increase the number of agreements.

The report informing about the delay in payments of Campaign 1, due to the complexity of the process and requesting the postponement of the deadline for the completion, was filed with the CIF and Technical Board of Organization and Health. In the report, it was advised to have Campaign 1 end together with Campaign 2, on June 29, 2018. In this same report, the essential concepts for evaluating the efficiency of the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM) were laid out in detail.

In this period, payments of 1,349 General Damage Registrations (RDG) were recorded, representing an increase of 160% when compared to February/18.

A specialized consultancy was hired to support the elimination of bottlenecks and gains in efficiency in the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM) offices. The consultancy will also assist in meeting the deadlines agreed in the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Term (TTAC) for the payment of campaigns 1 and 2.

The offices of Baixo Guandu and Linhares, in Espirito Santo, and Barra Longa and Rio Doce, in Minas Gerais, were assessed for a possible gain in efficiency in the indemnification process.

The Indemnity Policies (PIM General Damage) were consolidated and presented to the Technical Board of Social Organization (CTOS) for advice and deliberation.

Water Damage

The team is constantly holding meetings regarding the actions of the program in the affected municipalities in Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo, giving presentations and providing clarifications. Actions aimed at expanding the customer service are also underway in the localities. In January, the customer service for Water Damage was extended in some offices throughout the territory due to the demand of the impacted population.

General Damage

Service in the municipalities of Sao Mateus and Aracruz, Espirito Santo, began in January. In order to increase productivity and to close General Damage agreements, the Renova Foundation restructured the management of the PIM offices throughout the territories.

In December 2017, the itinerant offices of Povoacao, Regencia and Mascarenhas opened to attend to the public and in Linhares the support for subsistence fishing was initiated.

The offices of Aracruz and Sao Mateus in Espirito Santo, and a traveling office in Baixo Guandu (ES) were opened to attend to the large group of people that were affected.

In order to expedite the processes, a task force attended to a large amount of people in the municipalities of Linhares, Regencia, Povoacao, Aracruz, Sao Mateus and Baixo Guandu in Espirito Santo, and in Sao Jose Goiabal, Periquito, Ipatinga, Galileia and Rio Doce in Minas Gerais. The service that was provided in Povoacao and Regencia, in Espirito Santo, was also provided in Linhares (ES).

In addition, a large-scale service session was held in Rio Doce (MG), together with the Financial Aid Program.

Water Damage
Those who already entered the compensation process and who, due to incomplete documentation, did not receive a proposal, are being called to resolve the pending issues.

For indemnity proposals that were accepted, payments are being processed to those affected. To do so, the audit team verified the documents and traceability of the program information.

General Damage
The Interfederative Committee (CIF) has determined that the Renova Foundation should provide legal aid, free of charge, especially to the more vulnerable affected populations. A work plan was presented to meet these and other requirements. Clarifications regarding this resolution were given to representatives of the community of Povoacao, Linhares (ES).

Work was done in regard to the indemnification of fishermen in the region of Regencia (ES). The community of Povoacao, in Linhares, asked Renova to review the proposed values for the final indemnities of those affected due to fishing. This request is under review.

In order to increase the service quality and quantity in relation to indemnification, the Renova Foundation has increased the number of attendants and has reorganized the service office in Linhares (ES). Two itinerant offices were also set up for service along the Doce River.

To speed up the registration of those affected new to the indemnity program, a partnership was signed with Caixa Economica Federal to help opening accounts for those without a bank account.
In Barra Longa (MG), the Week of Conciliation with the Judiciary, held from November 27 to 30, resulted in some final indemnity proposals, approved by the judiciary.

Water Damage
Using sound cars and busses, the Renova Foundation action included answering questions and clarifying information about the PIM General Damage. The initiative also included customer support at the busiest hotspots, which include the municipalities of Colatina (ES) and Governador Valadares (MG).

On October 31, operations were closed in the offices 1, 2, 4 and 5, in Governador Valadares, were 100% of the affected population was served.

In addition, a partnership was established with the 8th Colatina Military Police Battalion to transport the population with difficult access to the PIM offices for their appointments.

General Damage
On October 17, the Renova Foundation met with the communities of Rio Doce and Santa Cruz do Escalvado (MG), to define issues regarding the provided support for Fishing and Placer Miners. The meetings were attended by the Commission of Affected Parties of Rio Doce, the Technical Advisory Body and the State and Federal Prosecution Service.

The team also continued to work on the proposals for final indemnification of the affected fishermen.

There were also presentations of proposals for indemnification of those affected who have businesses related to tourism in Regencia and Povoacao (ES).

Initiation of the Professional Development Program for outsourced employees. Initiated by the Alpercata (MG) office, the program aims to contribute to the career management of the team members and prepare them for the job market.

In Governador Valadares, traveling office 6 (with staff from offices 3 and 5) was opened next to the downtown shopping center. The objective is to bring the service center closer to the people living in the downtown region.

Water Damage
Meetings were held in two towns, Resplendor (MG) and Naque (MG), with the mayors and councilors to align and present the PIM. In Periquito (MG), a public hearing was conducted to clarify to the population that Periquito Sede is not included in the program because it is supplied by the Tavares stream.

In September, assistance started related to Water Damage in the municipalities of Naque and Sao Vitor, in the district of Governador Valadares (MG), which were affected by the collapse and are served through the municipalities that supply them.

A task force was formed to audit the processes of people that are 18 years of age or older (without homologation) in order to ensure the payment term of up to 90 days, stipulated by the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Term (TTAC), is met.
In order to alert the population about the registration deadline for the PIM Water, new dissemination strategies were adopted in the municipalities that have offices for Water Damage. Sound-equipped cars and touring buses provided clarifications and information on the subject to the population and provided service at the busiest places in the municipalities.

General Damage
The indemnity proposals were accepted for those affected in both states, in the areas tourism (ES), commerce (MG) and agriculture. Active professional fishermen continue to receive indemnity prepayments. Meetings were held on pricing and collective construction of fishery policies with representatives of fishing communities (fishing associations and colonies) in the continental, estuarine and marine regions.

Mapping of lawyers with several actions in court, so they can be to be invited to accompany their clients at meetings and speed up the legal processes.

Prioritization of cases of deceased persons and providing guidance to the families of those affected about the inventory process who, after assigning an administrator, can join the PIM.

Meetings with the Institute of Agrarian Reform (INCRA) addressed the proof of residence and/or land tenure of people that were affected and were living in settlements. It was communicated that it is possible to print the proof of land tenure on the agency's website.

Training with the Legal team of Samarco on the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM) for future indemnification projects. With the participation of the service team of Governador Valadares (MG), training was also conducted on water damage and indemnification of fishermen in the Information and Service Centers of the region, which stretches from São José do Goiabal (MG) to Regência (ES).

Water Damage
Meetings were held to align and present PIM in two towns: Governador Valadares (MG), with the participation of professionals from the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Military Police (PMMG), Minas Gerais Court of Justice (TJMG), mayor and town councilors; and Naque (MG), where the mayor, councilors, representatives of the Social Assistance Reference Center (Cras) and the Military Police (PMMG) participated. In Periquito (MG), a public hearing was conducted for general explanations about the program.

In Governador Valadares (MG), due to the high percentage of people served, the traveling office of the Santa Rita neighborhood was demobilized and the team divided between the mobile office in the central region of the town and the traveling office of the neighborhood Sir. The objective is to bring the service and the residents from the outskirts of the town closer together. In the mobile office it is possible to clarify doubts about the PIM and also to schedule meetings for reaching agreements.

Review and dissemination of the documentation required to join the PIM. The dialogue and communication programs are working together with the staff of this program to develop strategies to expand the dissemination of the PIM in Governador Valadares.

To validate the compensation and indemnification processes, an Advanced Dispute Resolution Office (PAA) was installed in the Court of Justice of Governador Valadares and its inauguration is scheduled for September. In addition, after a verification, the cases were identified of those affected by the collapse who received payment but that went to court at the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG) and/or Electronic Processes (PJE), after reaching an agreement with the Renova Foundation.

General Damage
Final indemnity proposals for tourism (ES), commercial properties (MG) and agriculture in both states were presented in August. Active professional fishermen continue to receive advance indemnity payments. Meetings were held on pricing and collective construction of fishery policies with representatives of fishing communities (fishing associations and colonies) in the continental, estuarine and marine regions.

Water Damage
Social informative sessions were held and also a meeting with authorities in the districts of Naque and Periquito (MG) to answer questions regarding the indemnification process of the PIM Water Damage. There were also informative meetings about the PIM with the nursing home Recanto da Dignidade, in Resplendor (MG), and with the local municipal authorities of Resplendor, Caratinga and Itueta (MG).

The purpose of the meeting with the Doce River Fishing Association (Aperdoce) was to present the Mediated Indemnity Program for Water Damage and General Damage again and understand the position of the members of the association regarding the non-adherence of anticipation.

In Governador Valadares (MG), a meeting with management of SAAE was focused on internal procedures to serve a larger number of the population. In addition, an integrated plan of action was elaborated by the PIM team focusing on the expansion of service in neighborhoods not yet contemplated.

General Damage
Fishermen from Linhares, Baixo Guandu, Colatina and Barra do Riacho, in Espirito Santo and Aimorés, Minas Gerais, were assisted regarding indemnity anticipation. In addition, there were initial meetings with farmers from Aimorés and Baixo Guandu.

Meetings were also held with the leader of the Baixo Guandu Colony and the Fishing Association, with the leader of the Aimorés Fishing Association and representatives of the Community of Maua (MG).

The teams responsible for Water Damage, General Damage and Social Dialogue also met with the communities of Itueta and Pedra Corrida, district of Periquito (MG), to clarify and disseminate information about the initiation of the anticipated fishery payment process.

Water Damage: In June, meetings were held to present and align the PIM Water Damage actions. The CEO of SAAE of Galileia (MG) and the judges from the counties of Resplendor (MG) and Conselheiro Pena (MG) received the Foundation’s team for meetings for the presentation of the program. There were also meetings with members of the local OAB units of the two towns. Also in Resplendor (MG), the team of the program participated in an interview on a local radio. In the town of Periquito (MG), employees of the Renova Foundation met with the mayor, councilors and members of the Movement of Parties Affected by Dams (MAB). Renova also participated in a Public Hearing in the locality.

In Governador Valadares (MG), meetings were held with the coordination of the Family Health Support Center (NASF) and the Municipal Health Care Department for the development of procedures for residential evidence of those impacted through Social Assistance. There was also a meeting with the public defender Rodrigo Silva to align the actions of the PIM in the municipality. A meeting was held between representatives of the program and Copasa, from Ipatinga (MG), to collect evidence of water damage in the town of Naque.

During the period, a new revision of the documentation matrix, necessary for admission to the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM), was developed and released, and is fundamental for proving the damage.

General Damage: The period was marked by the handling of the anticipation of the indemnity for fishermen, especially in Espirito Santo. Indemnity was paid in Regencia, Povoação, Baixo Guandu and Colatina. To discuss some of the payments the Renova Foundation held meetings with leaders of the Fishermen's Association of Regencia, in which indemnity amounts were established.
The Indemnification and Compensation team met with colleagues of the Financial Aid Program in the localities of Regency and Povoação, where they provided assistance. New emergency financial aid cards were given to fishermen who met the eligibility criteria. In Regencia, the Watercraft Recognition Term was signed, which makes it possible to anticipate the indemnity for watercraft owners. In addition, fishing boats were marked together with members of the local fishing community.

The program also presented the final indemnity proposal for those impacted in the tourism sector of the Doce River mouth region.

The Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM) related to the interruption to the supply and distribution of water in May, registered 86,845 proposals generated in Minas Gerais and 51,214 in Espirito Santo, totaling a cumulative of 138,059 in the two states. In the same period, 82,077 impacted parties accepted the indemnity proposal in Minas Gerais and 47,087 in Espirito Santo. There were 30,801 and 14,119 indemnity payments, respectively.

In this period, attendance began to those impacted in the new offices located in Cachoeira Escura, Pedra Corrida (MG) and Colatina (ES).

The Judicial Center for Conflict Resolution and Citizenship (CEJUSC) in Colatina, inaugurated in April, approved the first indemnity payment agreements involving minors.

Regarding general damage, 96 people, 57 in Minas Gerais and 39 in Espirito Santo, agreed to participate in PIM in May. The payment will be in turns, based on the definitions of the methodology for indemnification case by case. In the same period, indemnities were paid in advance to 71 people in Espirito Santo, 27 fishermen and 44 tourism professionals, to mitigate social and economic impacts, while indemnity policies are being prepared. In Minas, payments in advance were made to 15 impacted sand fishermen.

A meeting was held with the association of fishermen and members of the fishing colony in Baixo Guandu (ES) and Aimorés (MG) to define indemnity criteria for damages related to fishing. There was also a meeting with members of the Z19 Fishing Colony, of eastern Minas Gerais - a formal organization of professional fishermen from different locations around Governador Valadares - for formatting an indemnity proposal.

Initiated the assisted sand operation in Governador Valadares and Aimorés so that the Renova Foundation can obtain scenarios on the sand production before the collapse of the Fundão dam, at present time and future perspectives. This operation will provide parameters for the construction of the final indemnification methodology.

The Mediated Indemnity Program related to the interruption to the supply and distribution of water in April 2017, registered 15,737 beneficiaries, with proposals generated in Governador Valadares (MG) and Colatina (ES), reaching a total of 110,252.

In the same period, 25,300 impacted parties accepted the indemnity proposal. It is important to emphasize that the proposals accepted in this period were generated in previous stages and months. Therefore, the difference between the number of accepted and generated proposals. A total of 4,657 indemnity payments were made for the damage related to the interruption to the water supply.

In Colatina (ES), the process to extend the operational hours of offices 1 and 2 is in progress.

On April 26, the Judiciary of Espirito Santo inaugurated the Judicial Center for Conflict Resolution and Citizenship (CEJUSC) of Colatina. This request originated from the Renova Foundation and is intended to comply with the homologations of indemnity payment agreements involving minors and those with restrictions.

In relation to the general damages, a technical advisory body was contracted to certify the production capacity of the sand plains at the mouth of the Rio Doce. In addition, technical meetings with fishery experts were initiated to define the parameters for indemnification of fishermen along the Doce River and its mouth. The localities of Regência, Povoação, Baixo Guandu and Aimorés have already hosted these meetings.

Regarding the Mediated Indemnity Program related to the interruption to the supply and distribution of water in March 2017, 23,593 beneficiaries received proposals, of which 12, 844 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 10,749 in Colatina (ES). In the same period, 21,002 impacted parties accepted the indemnity proposal. In total, 94,515 beneficiaries received proposals, of which 59,481 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 35,034 in Colatina (ES). 62,181 impacted parties accepted the indemnity proposal.
The “one single meeting” pilot project was initiated in the offices of Governador Valadares and Colatina to optimize the assistance for water damage requests, increasing the service capacity towards the population and a reduction of the payment time. Overall, 2,100 beneficiaries were assisted and 2,500 appointments were scheduled, due to the shutdown by the Military Police in Espírito Santo.

New meetings were also held with the judiciary of Vitória and Colatina (ES) to define how the approval processes for minors should proceed.

Regarding general damages, a community meeting was held to define the indemnity criteria of the tourism sector in Regência and Povoação, in Espírito Santo. In addition, there was also a meeting in Linhares (ES) with the same objective, which included the participation of the Tourism, Culture, Sport and Recreation Department, the Economic and Urban Development Department and the Environmental Department, the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae) and the Retail Association. In the municipality of Linhares there are 15 cases in progress in the tourism sector.

In March, an office was opened in Rio Doce (MG) and there was communication with the fishing colony of Linhares and fishing associations of Regência and Povoação (ES).

Up to February 2017, 70,922 beneficiaries have received compensation and indemnity proposals, of which 46,637 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 24,285 in Colatina (ES). In total, 41,179 beneficiaries have accepted the agreement.

So far, up to February 2017, the indemnity payment for non-material damage due to water was made to 20,588 beneficiaries, of which 12,859 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 7,729 in Colatina (ES).

Customers and entrepreneurs of the sand mining sector in Governador Valadares (MG) participated in a workshop sponsored by the Renova Foundation to identify possible changes in the product resulting from the collapse of the Fundão dam.

Until January 2017, 54,815 beneficiaries have received compensation and indemnity proposals from the Renova Foundation, of which 35,849 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 18,966 in Colatina (ES). In total, 30,862 of the beneficiaries have accepted the agreement.

So far, until January 2017, the indemnity payment for non-material damage by water was made to 7,939 beneficiaries, of which 4,755 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 3,184 in Colatina (ES).

The final negotiations of compensation for general damage have started in Barra Longa (MG) and Linhares (ES). Advance payment of general damages claims in Linhares and Governador Valadares (sand fishermen).

In 2016, 28,711 beneficiaries received compensation and indemnity proposals from the Renova Foundation, of which 19,618 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 9,093 in Colatina (ES). In total 13,179 of those impacted have accepted the agreement. Moreover in 2016 the indemnity payment for non-material water damage was made to 2,639 beneficiaries, of which 1,202 in Governador Valadares (MG) and 1,437 in Colatina (ES). In Linhares (ES) the support of the process for Mediated Indemnity for General Damage has finally started, as did the support for the process for the sand fishermen of Governador Valadares (MG).

Itinerant offices were opened in Governador Valadares (MG) to assist the public as well as lawyers who sued Samarco for non-material damage due to the lack of water supply. Support has also started in the fixed offices in Colatina (ES). Overall, 927 indemnity debit cards were given out, of which 495 in Governador Valadares and 432 in Colatina.

The first prepaid debit cards were issued for non-material water damage and the assistance to those impacted in the town of Governador Valadares (MG) was started. In addition, the staff responsible for giving support through the 0800 hotline was trained, and local people to work in the Water Damage offices, created by the Renova Foundation were hired and trained.

During the month of September 2016 there were nine public hearings for clarifying the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM) to residents of towns in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. During this period, another meeting was held with merchants of Minais Gerais about the damage matrix and the review of the indemnity criteria for livestock, together with entities like Emater and Incaper.
