Environmental Education , Young Leadership Training

The objective of the initiative is to encourage young people to participate in environmental education measures
in the Doce River Basin region.

Registration for the Young Leadership Training Project is now open. The action, which covers the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, aims to promote youth participation in the process of environmental preservation and restoration in the Doce River Basin, encouraging their actions in two areas: awareness and socio-environmental education.

Young people between 15 and 29 years old can register for free. To do this, you must prove that you live, work or study in one of the 41 municipalities in the Doce River basin. In total, 800 places will be made available, divided between the states, and those approved will receive participation assistance of R$ 485.00 for 13 months, upon presence in the project activities.

Project objectives

The course will teach, among other activities, actions such as the preparation and execution of projects aimed at environmental education, ecological culture and revitalization and restoration of the fauna and flora of the Doce River Basin.

Educator Vinícius Tinte Mendonça, who participated in the Young Leadership Training Project last year, will be part of the teaching staff this year and returns with pelnty of experience, aiming to take the lead in his community. “When I participated in the project, it was a great opportunity to carry out actions that go beyond the mud. I was part of the Young Leaders, because I was interested in being part of a social project that helped promote a bit of return of dignity for people in my community”, he says.

Vinícius was one of those responsible for developing the “Bring the Music” project, which created a singing group in Bugre (MG) with young people from the city. “This year, I’m going back to teach the project and I believe a lot of people will identify with it.”

According to the analyst of the Education Program for the Revitalization of the Doce River Basin at the Renova Foundation, Igor Moreira, the idea is to create opportunities, through educational processes, to promote youth participation. “The main purpose of the project is to implement environmental education measures. A process of awareness, mobilization, participation and, mainly, engagement and empowerment of these communities that are involved in this process of environmental preservation and restoration. A new way of relating to nature and its resources”, he explains.

The Young Leadership Training Project is a compensatory action and is part of the Educational Program for the Revitalization of the Doce River Basin, in compliance with the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Term (TTAC).
