Rainy Season

The initiative is part of the action plans for the rainy season

The Renova Foundation constantly monitors the water quality indicators along the Doce River. If the turbidity in the region of Baixo Guandu (ES) exceeds the 5000 NTU limit – mathematical unit used in measuring the turbidity – the entity has an important resource to minimize the impacts on fauna located at the mouth of the Doce River: turbidity curtains. The maximum value was established by the State Institute for the Environment and Water Resources (Iema-ES).

The devices provided for in the contingency plan for the rainy season work as a barrier, with a length of 1.5 km (0.93 miles), which prevent the passage of particles using woven fabric as a filter. If needed the curtains can be completely installed in the region of the mouth of the Doce River within only 96 hours, which is a strategic location for the protection of species. The material is now available and can be used at any time.

The curtains are made of woven polyester weft which is antioxidant and antifungal.
