Action features Integrated Environmental Recovery Plan

The completion of the actions regarding containment and stabilization of sediment deposited in 12 areas of the Gualaxo do Norte, Carmo and Doce Rivers in the regions of Barra Longa and Mariana (MG), is scheduled for April 2017. These areas were given priority in accordance with the soil characterization studies in the stretch affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam, completed in 2016. The works also include the control of erosion and recovery of the channels and margins. The other points of the rivers are expected to be completed by December 2017.

The full recovery of these riverbanks should be completed by 2020. All studies are part of the scientific basis for the recovery process, consisting of a set of scientific and social assessments that aim to guide decision-making regarding the remediation in the medium and long term. This work is part of the Integrated Environmental Recovery Plan (PRAI) and is held in partnership with companies specialized in environmental consulting and features the supervision of the competent bodies.
