Rainy Season

Plan created by the entity looks into preventive and contingency actions.

The Renova Foundation, created to repair, restore and reconstruct the damages caused by the Fundão dam collapse, intensified the plan focused on preventive and contingency actions regarding the rainy season in several municipalities, including Governador Valadares.

WHAT IS BEING DONE

Since the water supply in Governador Valadares originates from the Doce River, the Renova Foundation is taking some preventive actions:

  • Alternative water withdrawal
New water withdrawal alternatives available at the ETA Recanto dos Sonhos and in adjustment phase in São Vitor. In addition, a new alternative withdrawal for the ETA Central is being studied.
  • Improvements to the infrastructure of the Water Treatment Plants (Central ETA, Vila Isa and Santa Rita)
  • Continuous sample taking
Samples are being collected fortnightly along the Doce River in order to guarantee that the water is within the treatable standards. This frequency can be increased when necessary.
  • Constant monitoring
In addition to the water quality monitoring at the ETAs, performed daily by SAAE, the Renova Foundation also performs a weekly analysis of the water. This frequency will be increased and will include the participation of UFMG.

COMMAND CENTER

Governador Valadares is one of the towns where a Command Center will be installed which will be in direct contact with, and subordinate to local Civil Defenses and relevant bodies. The proximity makes the decision making regarding adversities more agile, establishing an integrated command, making it easier to follow the actions and sharing information with society. The other Command Centers will be installed in Mariana, Barra Longa and Colatina.
