Plan brings together all the environmental program actions created by the institution
The Integrated Environmental Recovery Plan (PRAI), initiated by Samarco Mineração, due to the collapse of the Fundão dam, will now be managed by the Renova Foundation. The plan was established with the objective to remediate and mitigate the extension of the impacts and, in the emergency phase, focused mainly on the carrying out of humanitarian assistance actions and environmental remediation actions.
The performance was marked by five major work fronts that, together, form the Integrated Environmental Recovery Plan (PRAI). The work front that focuses on the safety of the remaining structures of the Germano, Santarém and Fundão dams became operational immediately after the collapse. First, two other fronts that make up PRAI also were accomplished: the expansion of the tailings storage capacity and the containment and control of erosion of the impacted areas along the rivers.
For the first three activities of the PRAI to be prolonged, with long-term and definitive actions, the fourth component of the plan was created: scientific justification of the risk assessment and of the recovery process. Only with the results of these technical studies the fifth front of the PRAI has started: recovery of rivers, action of increased complexity and that will require more time to completion, which is being managed by the Renova Foundation.

PRAI brings together all the actions part of the environmental programs of the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Term (TTAC), signed between Samarco Mineração, its shareholders, Vale and BHP Billiton, and the Federal Government, state governments of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, and other government agencies. This way, the Renova Foundation materializes its commitment with the recovery of the rivers impacted by the collapse of the Fundão dam, without restriction of investment of resources, equipment and people to implement the necessary solutions. It’s important to highlight that each intervention requires a deadline for the implementation which should be respected, corresponding to its degree of complexity.
