Selected projects involve community participation

The Renova Foundation’s Social Assistance RFP selected eight institutions to develop projects involving community participation. Approximately 6 thousand families from Aracruz, Baixo Guandu, Colatina, Marilândia and Sooretama, in Espírito Santo, will be assisted. More than 1,300 students will have lectures on environmental education in schools and another 80 will be trained as child tourist guides. A total of R$4 million will be invested to carry out the activities.

In Aracruz, the association Amigos da Justiça, Cidadania e Arte develops the Saber Viver project: Building New Experiences, aimed at different audiences. Children and teenagers participate in robotics classes, while seniors attend dance classes and women participate in activities related to aesthetics and female empowerment.

In Baixo Guandu, the Elos de Resistência Institute organizes “Educando para a Vida” (Educating for Life) aimed at children, adolescents and young people who participate in sports such as soccer and capoeira.

“The Social Protection Program aims to develop and execute actions to promote social protection, through social assistance actions, including sociocultural activities and psychosocial support, monitoring families and vulnerable individuals, in partnership with the municipal assistance secretariats”, says Maria Albanita Lima, specialist in the Social Protection Program of the Renova Foundation.

The Program

The Social Protection Program is developed from two main pillars. The first is carried out through the Technical Cooperation Agreement, in which financial resources are transferred directly to the municipalities. The amount is intended for the provision of professionals to expand care for vulnerable families and for the purchase of supplies for the activities of the Social Assistance Reference Centers (Cras) and Specialized Reference Centers for Social Assistance (Creas).

The second pillar is the Technical Cooperation Agreement, in which the Renova Foundation allocates resources to unpublished projects or existing initiatives presented by institutions of the social protection network and other entities that touch social assistance in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.

In both pillars, more than one hundred professionals, including social workers and psychologists, work in the municipalities that adhere to the Social Protection Reparation Plan. Currently, around R$33 million and 18 vehicles have been made available for cities along the Doce River basin to develop the Social Protection Reparation Plan and serve more than 21,000 vulnerable families. In addition, 11 projects are being executed or contracted, via social assistance entities, in seven municipalities in Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais.
