Forest Restoration

The objective is to develop an economically viable action plan for the region

On May 03 and 04, starting at 9am, the Renova Foundation organizes the Doce River Valley Forest Restoration Workshop. The objective is to draft the outlines of an action plan based on real successful experiences. The expectation is that the document will include economic and environmental alternatives, associated with forest restoration, that can be replicated in the Doce River Valley.

Experts, academics and civil society will meet to discuss different aspects of forest restoration, such as strategic guidelines for the restoration of 40,000 hectares (about 98842 acres) along the Doce River Basin, the concept and importance of landscape management, the creation of ecological corridors and ways of stimulating farmers, focusing on the economic sustainability of the restoration.

The Action Plan for environmental restoration should be based on successful experiences and replicable for the Doce River Basin.

Participants will include representatives of the Doce River Basin Committee (CBH Doce), the Ministry of Environment (MMA), the SOS Atlantic Forest Foundation, Coalition Brazil, the International Council for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF), the Institute for Ecological Research (IPE) WRI Brazil, the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA), the Nature Conservancy (TNC), the Environmental Department of Extrema (MG), the Government of the State of Espirito Santo, the BioAtlantic Institute (IBIO), among others.

The meeting, to be held at the Dom Cabral Foundation in Nova Lima (MG), can be followed live through the YouTube channel of the Renova Foundation.
