Roberto Waack, CEO of the institution, presented a lecture on the restoration of the Doce River

On Wednesday morning, May 10, Roberto S. Waack, CEO of the Renova Foundation, participated in the IV Brazilian Forum on Degraded Areas. The event began this Tuesday (05/09) and goes until Thursday at the Federal University of Viçosa (MG) and aims to seek practical solutions and to present successful experiences in the restoration of different Brazilian biomes, as well as to promote discussions on useful models for high-impact activities such as mining, road and dam construction, and agricultural and livestock activities.

Roberto S. Waack was invited to minister the main lecture, which opened the activities on the 10th. He spoke about the experiences and learnings derived from the Doce River actions, where 47 thousand hectares of forest will be restored by Renova. Altogether, the Foundation has developed 42 programs, socioeconomic and socio-environmental, throughout the region affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam in Mariana (MG).

The recovery of the areas degraded by the tragedy was also the topic of the lecture by Gustavo Bediaga de Oliveira, Coordinator of the Permanent Doce River Support Center, of the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA).

Other researchers and experts addressed different techniques related to environmental recovery, such as soil conservation, erosion containment and stabilization of slopes and hillsides.
