RENOVA FOUNDATION HAS ALLOCATED R$ 1.84 BILLION IN COMPENSATIONS TO ABOUT 320 THOUSAND PEOPLE

The Renova Foundation clarifies that as of August 31, it has allocated $ 1.84 billion in compensation and emergency financial aid to about 320,000 people. 9,120 indemnity payments and 1,905 indemnity prepayments were made for general damages suffered, serving more than 31 thousand people. Of the proposals submitted, 98.6% were accepted. The Foundation also compensated more than 264,000 people for damages resulting from the temporary water supply suspension that lasted over 24 hours.

Based on the files that were drafted and submitted by Caritas, technical advisory body that supports those affected, the families of Mariana are negotiating compensation for material and moral damage. As of August 31, 2019, of the 882 registered families, 354 began negotiations with the Renova Foundation’s Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM), of which 200 negotiations have been completed. To date, 377 files have been submitted by Caritas.

The emergency financial aid program currently assists 13,673 main beneficiaries, serving more than 31,184 affected people. These families receive a monthly amount corresponding to a current minimum wage, plus 20% per dependent, in addition to the amount equivalent to a DIEESE basic food basket, which may vary from month to month and state to state.

As for fishermen, the Renova Foundation reports that as of August 31, 2019, approximately 8,600 fishermen in Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais were recognized as being entitled to Emergency Financial Aid (AFE) and the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM).
