In the spirit of transparency and collaboration that underpins the work of the Renova Foundation, On October 1st, the directors of the institution attended the session of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (CPI) of Tax Evasion, which was held jointly with the CPI of Licenses, at the Legislative Assembly of Espirito Santo (ALES), although the foundation’s activities have no relation to the defined and limited purpose of the aforementioned committees.

During the meeting, a request was made for the arrest of the Renova Foundation CEO Roberto Waack, a measure that had been anticipated by the Espirito Santo press and the reason why the Renova Foundation preventatively turned to the Judiciary. Following a new call to Renova’s board of directors, scheduled for October 3, at ALES, the Foundation went to court again and, according to a decision by the Espirito Santo Court of Justice, the board of directors is not required to attend the meetings of these CPIs, as the risk of “new violations of constitutional rights by the members of the committee” was recognized.

The Renova Foundation is committed to provide the public with transparent information on the Doce River Basin repair process. The institution seeks to ensure a broad and permanent access of the results of its actions and partner entities to Brazilian society and authorities.

Created through a Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Term (TTAC) to repair the damage caused by the Fundao dam collapse, the Renova Foundation is permanently overseen by independent external audits by companies such as Ernst & Young, Price and KPMG, and by the Prosecution Service for Foundations. In addition, accountability documents of its activities are posted on its website.
