Residents of six municipalities, aged between 15 and 29, can register for free until February 11
Promoting the training of young leaders in the territories affected by the Fundao dam collapse in Mariana (MG) is the Passport for Revitalization project’s objective, now open for registration. One hundred young residents, aged between 15 and 29 years old, will be selected from the municipalities of Resplendor, Itueta, and Aimores, in Minas Gerais, and Baixo Guandu, Colatina, and Marilandia, in Espirito Santo. Registration is free and can be done until February 11 by clicking here.
This initiative of the Renova Foundation – in partnership with the Minas Gerais Association of Family Farming Schools (AMEFA) – is part of the Foundation’s Young Leadership Training Project, which will gather 1,000 young residents from 41 municipalities in the Doce River Basin to be part of five territorial projects focused on environmental, social, economic, and cultural revitalization. The projects aim to mobilize and engage young people to participate in collective actions in the river basin repair process.
“The idea is to create opportunities, through educational processes, to promote the participation of young generations and expand their possibilities to act in relation to local development, and social and environmental issues in the municipalities,” explains Igor Moreira, an analyst at Renova’s Educational Program for Revitalization of the Doce River Basin.
The Leadership Training Project is developed in partnership with five institutions which the Renova Foundation selected in 2019 through an RFP: Minas Gerais Association of Family Farming Schools (AMEFA); Community Center for Culture and Development (CPCD); Geraldo Perlingeiro Abreu Foundation; Integrated Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Programs (CIEDS); and Lumiar Ambiental.
The institutions were divided into five areas along the Doce River Basin. Each of them developed a project respecting the objectives of mobilizing and engaging young people in the Doce River’s revitalization.
Currently, only the Passport for Revitalization project is open for registration. The others have already started welcoming and integrating the selected young people. However, there will be permanent mobilization in all projects to fill vacancies due to possible dropouts. Due to the pandemic, mobilization activities continue online, using virtual tools.
