Projeto de Incentivo à Leitura

Minas Gerais municipalities received support from the Renova Foundation to revitalize spaces and
expand the collections available to the population

The José Ferreira de Assis Municipal Library, in Tumiritinga (MG), and the Padre Assis Barbosa Municipal Library, in Bom Jesus do Galho (MG), were reopened by the municipalities in August, with the support of the Reading Incentive Project from the Renova Foundation.

The objective of the initiative is to structure and implement actions to modernize public libraries in the municipalities affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam (MG). Each participating library was able to customize the projects, having the choice between games, books, equipment, furniture and small structural repairs.

In Tumiritinga, the available space and collection were updated with 1,021 books and 28 games, in addition to furniture and equipment delivered by the Renova Foundation. In Bom Jesus do Galho, the municipality chose to renew the collection of books and games with around almost 200 copies.

 Training

The Reading Incentive Project goes beyond the physical restructuring of spaces and the next step is the continuity of training aimed at managing public libraries, encouraging reading in practice, communication and mobilization, and inclusion.

Libraries will also participate in the best practices RFP, which will reward public institutions that develop project proposals and outstanding actions in revitalized spaces.
