Giorgio Peixoto, representative of the Agroforestry Operations front, explains the action. Holes are drilled in the rocks and then expansive mortar is applied, making it possible to break them. After breaking, the fragments are collected and deposited on the riverbanks.

“The purpose of this removal is to minimize flooding, as it will open up space for water to be directed into the river channel, avoiding sediment build-up and water diversion to the margins.” Giorgio also clarifies that the material originating from these outcrops used for the margins, will function as protection to avoid erosions.  The work is expected to be completed in March 2018.
