Rural producers interested in receiving PSA can register on the Renova Foundation website

Financially subsidize rural producers who preserve the ecosystem of their properties. This is the premise of Payment for Environmental Services (PSA), one of the fastest growing environmental preservation and recovery tools in Brazil. The PSA was chosen by the Renova Foundation to support the recovery of 40,000 hectares of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) and five thousand springs within the Doce River Basin in 10 years.

Between May 25 and July 25, rural property owners interested in receiving PSA can sign up for the RFI, available here on the Renova Foundation website. The properties that will be contemplated are located in regions of the municipalities Colatina, Pancas and Marilandia in Espirito Santo; and Periquito, Governador Valadares, Galileia and Coimbra, in Minas Gerais.

Landowners who wish to recover springs and other Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) located on their property submit a RFI. Producers will be compensated by means of an incentive that can reach R$ 252 per hectare/year.

Adherence to PSA is voluntary. The Renova Foundation will provide all the necessary inputs for the environmental recovery projects, as well as provide technical assistance and support the adherence of the property to the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR). The producer is responsible for inspecting the areas covered by the program, fighting leaf-cutting ants, building fences and maintenance for a period of five years.

The planting of native forest species and the implementation of soil and water conservation projects in productive areas are some of the measures outlined in the RFI. With these actions, the program intends, mainly, to increase the infiltration of water in the soil, to increase the biodiversity of the region and to decrease the erosive processes. For more details check the complete RFI here.
