The proposals and needs will support the development of the urban plan

The Paracatu de Baixo community (MG) participated in 12 meetings on the reconstruction of the district affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam. The focus of the discussions were housing, culture, mobility and occupation of the territory.

The proposals and requirements listed by the 96 families heard by the Renova Foundation team, will support the development of the urban plan and the architectural projects. The suggestions received the approval of 75.2% of the households.

The meetings took place from July 2016 to January 2017 and were aimed at collecting information for the Expectations and Auto-Delimitation of Land Survey, of which the report will be handed to the residents’ committee later this month.

PROCESS STEPS

• Before engaging all families, the working methodology was presented and validated by the Paracatu residents’ committee.

• To rescue the recollection of the children, adults and elderly of the district, a “Memory Clothesline” was built, which depicts the customs, beliefs, festivities and forms of occupation of the territory.

• Three questions guided the conversations with the community: What did we have and want to keep? What did we have and would like to improve? What did we not have and would like to have?

• Finally, there was the auto-delimitation of the district, important for understanding how the territorial distribution of the original site used to be and its neighborhood relations. In total, 113 lots were identified that make up the mosaic of properties of Paracatu de Baixo and Paracatu de Cima.
