Initiative will benefit farming families and strengthen agroecological production in the region

The community of the Oziel Alves Pereira settlement, in Governador Valadares, now has a new agribusiness in the region, a significant milestone in the revitalization of the Doce river basin. The initiative promotes the agroecological cultivation of fruit species, generating income for hundreds of local farming families and reinforcing sustainable development in the middle Doce River.

Under the management of the Central Peasant Cooperative of Minas Gerais (Concentra), the fruit pulping agroindustry will process up to 400 kilos of food per hour, with two assembly lines: one for minimally processed products and the other for fruit pulp. The products will be sold to the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), companies, supermarkets and other consumers in Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo and Bahia.

Support for families

The agroindustry in Governador Valadares is part of the Agroecological Project for the Implementation of the Fruit Production Chain, which benefits 156 families in the municipalities of Tumiritinga and Periquito, residing in areas of agrarian reform settlements.

In addition to adding value to local agricultural production, the project offers comprehensive support to settler families, including financial and technical assistance for the development of orchards, with the planting of more than 12 thousand seedlings.

The actions also include training courses, exchange of experiences and organization of product marketing and logistics. Through training, cooperativism and community strengthening, the project aims to promote more sustainable agriculture and the economic empowerment of the families involved.
