Initiative is part of the Indigenous Peoples Quality of Life Protection and Recovery Program
Dialogue with indigenous peoples has been intensified through meetings with the Tupiniquim and Guarani peoples of the Indigenous Lands Tupiniquim, Caieiras Velha II and Comboios, located in the municipality of Aracruz (ES). The content covered involves issues related to indigenous health, water quality and the contingency plan for flooding in the region.
On Wednesday (02/01), a meeting with the indigenous peoples of Comboios dealt with answering the questions raised in December and January, counting with participation of the National Indian Foundation (Funai) and the Indigenous Health Department (SESA). Check the main definitions:
INDIGENOUS HEALTH
With the participation of the agencies involved a working group will be created to address actions related to the water supply, which has a direct impact on the health of the indigenous people. The Public Defender’s Office, which supervises legal matters of the indigenous lands, will also be involved.
WATER QUALITY
To ensure transparency and participation in the water monitoring process it has been agreed that the indigenous peoples will join the technical teams during the collection of the water samples, later sent to laboratories.
FLOOD PLAN
Concern about the floods during the rainy season and the impact on the village was raised by the indigenous people of Comboios, due to previous situations of the Comboios River. An intersectorial working group has been created to structure the flood plan to be managed by Civil Defense and convened by the Ombudsman.
RESPECT FOR DIFFERENCES
The respect for the specificities of these peoples and a permanent regular dialogue are guiding principles of the Indigenous Peoples Quality of Life Protection and Recovery Program.
