The resumption of economic and productive activities linked to fishery in the communities affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam was subject of the Second Technical Panel on Aquaculture and Fisheries Activities held in Espírito Santo on March 7.
Following the Renova Foundation’s principle of collaborative and shared development of solutions, the event included the participation of experts, researchers and representatives of environmental agencies, as the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural Renewable Resources (Ibama), the State Department of Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad), the State Institute for the Environment and Water Resources (Iema), the Agricultural and Forest Protection Institute of Espírito Santo (IDAF) and the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (Ifes).

During the meeting data were presented on the conducted studies, on implemented expertise and projects for the fishery sector. According to the leader of the Aquaculture and Fisheries Activities Resumption Program of the Renova Foundation, Paulo Rocha, the panel is the first step to discuss ideas, to raise the potential and to create joint solutions for the implementation of actions in the coming years.
During the last part of the panel, participants could give their opinion on the alternatives presented, suggest proposals and set referrals to define the work and speed up the implementation of projects in these locations.
The entire process will also be discussed with the fishermen in order to meet the needs of the communities, according the vocation of each region. These discussions are fundamental for the development of the scope of the program.
This is the second event of the Renova Foundation where the subject is discussed. In January a panel was held on fishery and aquaculture in Belo Horizonte (MG).
