Last Thursday, 05/16, social workers from Caratinga, in the Doce River Valley (MG), participated in a financial education workshop. The goal is to provide guidance on financial planning and personal financial management. The event is an initiative of the Social Protection Program of the Renova Foundation, in partnership with the Brazilian Financial Education Association (AEF).

The head of the socio-assistance surveillance department of Caratinga, Suely da Silva, participated in the workshop and stressed the importance of this type of action. “It was a very productive event especially for us who work with social assistance, with a financially-vulnerable public. Moreover, because of the economic situation that the country is going through it is fundamental to know how to handle finances and manage our money well. We will be able to pass on what we have learned in the workshop to those who we attend and guide them,” she says.

Glaziane Silva, an analyst of the Social Protection and Health Program of the Renova Foundation, explains how the initiative came about. “The proposal of the financial education workshops is an action that arose from the conversations between the Social Protection Program and the Financial Aid Program, from the perspective of indemnification through assistance, in order to guide the affected families on financial planning in the process of resuming their activities.”

Izabelly Franca, who also acts as an analyst for the Social Protection and Health Program, talks about the importance of workshops for Social Workers and Educators in the municipalities of Minas Gerais. “They contribute to the development of activities in these two areas [social assistance and education], in promoting the subject in municipalities that have communities impacted by the dam collapse.”
