Initiative helps economic recovery in regions affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam.

Promoting the reintegration of the population into the job market and strengthening regional development are the main objectives of the Capacita Rio Doce project, which offers free introductory, advanced and professional qualification courses in communities along the basin.

Since the beginning of the year, residents of 30 municipalities in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo have participated in the initiative, which trained 834 people in 60 classes. With more than 2,400 hours of in-person and practical classes, the project seeks to contribute to strengthening the local economy, valuing the region’s workforce and creating opportunities for professional growth for its residents.

Capacita Rio Doce is intended for residents of municipalities affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam. In 2024, courses were opened for residents of Alpercata, Periquito (Pedra Corrida and Liberdade Settlement), Bom Jesus do Galho (Revés do Belém), Belo Oriente (Cachoeira Escura), Conselheiro Pena, Dionísio, Galileia, Governador Valadares, Governador Valadares (Baguari e São Tarcísio), Ipaba, Itueta, Mariana, Mariléia, Naque, Resplendor, Rio Casca, Aimorés (Santo Antonio do Rio Doce), São Domingos do Prata, São Jose do Goiabal, Sem-Peixe, Sobrália, Timóteo and Tumiritinga, in Minas Gerais; and Baixo Guandu, Colatina, Marilândia, and Linhares (Povoação and Regência), in Espírito Santo.

In each new cycle, courses are offered by partner institutions, such as Senai, in areas such as civil construction, technology, business management and aesthetics, adapting to the specific needs of each community.

For the second half of 2024, another 400 places are planned, expanding the scope of the initiative. Registration is carried out in person or online.
