Plant is part of a set of improvement measures for the local public water supply system
On Friday (03/31), the Renova Foundation officially delivered a new Water Treatment Plant (ETA) to the local authorities of Belo Oriente in the district of Perpétuo Socorro, also known as Cachoeira Escura, plus several improvements among which a new water withdrawal system.
The new plant has a 40-liter (10.6 gallons) treatment capacity/per second and will ensure the regularity and security of the water supply system. The structure will benefit the entire population of Perpétuo Socorro and is part of a series of improvements made in the region. The plant will operate through an advanced treatment system, meeting all the potability parameters established by the Ministry of Health, which determines the water quality standards for human consumption in Brazil.

“The operation is similar to the old plant, but with a better standard of technology. New floating pumps were installed in the Doce River for raw water withdrawal. This water is pumped to the treatment plant, where the first step is desanding (sand removal). After this process, the water is transported to where flocculation and coagulation products are added until it reaches the maximum purity” explains James Ferretti Stein, engineer of the Renova Foundation.
According to Alysson Werneck Pereira, the Renova Foundation project manager responsible for the execution of the construction works, the initiative to build a new treatment plant for the Perpétuo Socorro district is aligned to the commitments that Renova has with the region. “I believe that the population will receive a more stable/regular water distribution and that the water quality will become even safer. Our technical team is still there, supporting the creation of operational procedures and ensuring higher system efficiency”.
